Little reminders

When Mike and I started dating, he gave me this cute red heart eraser (yes, a cheesy gift).  I keep it in my purse as a great memory.  This little eraser is now almost 25 years old. It’s a little shabby, stained, and scuffed. Every time I look at this gift, I am reminded of all that is good, of all the struggles, but mostly of all that Christ has done for us.   How can I not be reminded and thankful for His constant love and care for us at each season of our lives?

As I shared with a few friends this past week about Joshua 4:1-7. God had asked Joshua to create a memorial of stones as a reminder to the Israelites.  First,  God had led them to the Jordan River—a reminder of how he carried them through all of the hardships they endured as they remembered their pasts.  Second, He prepared a way for them to cross the Jordan– a reminder  of how he provided a safe deliverance for them to cross over to something new. Third, He saw to their well-being as each person crossed the Jordan safely to the other side– a reminder of how he watches and cares about us even when it seems danger surrounds us constantly.

The storms of this life are relentless and we are bombarded daily from each side. It is often discouraging. But be encouraged as it written in John 15:19, “If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”  This is a wonderful reminder of the promise of God’s love for us in the middle of difficult times and that we belong to him. God has you in his hands. It is believing his promise and surrendering ourselves to the Lord by placing our focus only on Him.  What is your reminder of his love for you?
